Week 5

The opinion piece I wrote last week was published in the DigBoston circulation. I was glad to see that something I wrote was printed. At the same time, I was disappointed that some of the points I had made were edited to say something a bit different. This made me curious about how the editing process works at newspaper sites. Since most exchanges of articles are done through the internet, there's nothing personal about editing (it may be hard to pick up the writer's tone, if you do not know who the writer is). I am more interested in how publications work (the behind the scenes aspects of the field).
Things have been going well over the last week. I have not been assigned any big projects. I am learning the ins-and-outs of the website and now it doesn't take me as long to draft and format posts. I have realized that I try to actively listen (ask questions, clarify) to what my supervisors tell me. I want to be able to get the work done correctly the first time, so I do not cause delays on anyone else's end. I want to be able to be approached to do more work.
