I hope you all are having great experiences at your internships. I should go into a little bit of detail over the past two weeks. So my first day at my internship I was a little nervous but more excited than anything. This is definitely more of the field I want to go into than what I had for my first internship. The first day was just spent getting acquainted and used to things. I had to download a lot of programs and apps as the guys that work there are very current in tech (as am I). We actually keep in each others scheduling with google calendars and update each other. I definitely think since our last class discussing personalities that we are all very similar. We are all somewhat messy but know where everything is and it is definitely a play before work atmosphere. The owners generally come in whenever they need to or feel like but feel responsibility when it comes to me fulfilling my hours which is great. A great benefit is very flexible scheduling. I just let them know through google calendars when I want to come in and let me know if anything changes. They are also entrepreneurs which is great as that clicks with my career choices. Also no day is the same as the other.
I can already say that one day I was helping a client out in the berryline in fenway to put up there artwork. The next I am at a conference for entrepreneurs meeting the CEO of monster.com & sam adams. That was a great experience! They also give me a lot of responsibility and I feel like I am almost a 3rd owner in a way. I really enjoy being trusted and responsible. It definitely makes me feel more motivated to work with them and help them succeed. It also helps to be around a lot of other young entrepreneurs, it is a really inspiring atmosphere.
The only things I can really dislike I guess is that it is really still such a new concept and company that they do not have everything down. There is a lot more in concept than there is executed (which actually gives me a lot of opportunity to suggest ideas and take risks!) but it also can leave a lot of breathing room. While flexible I can find myself having some short periods of nothing to do but when there is something to do there is plenty of it. One of the owners actually rang the bell at the New York Stock Exchange this past weekend and he allowed me to write up a blog of how is experience was for a press release from the MassChallenge startup organization.
One of the great events I got to attend this week was the Entrepreneur conference in the Fidelity building on summer street in the financial district. It was absolutely amazing as we got to hear from many entrepreneurs about their start ups including some really large companies and as they share there ideas it is really inspiring. I actually got to meet with a few of the speakers at the end of the conference. There was a cocktail reception after and I got to meet many others who had come to visit boston for the conference. I remember one woman was from Chicago for the conference representing here company who helped sponsored it. It was a great experience as they showed a lot of use of social media and how it really is a big part of the business world now a days.
Overall my experience has been absolutely amazing. This has already been a very enlightening experience and may even push me to start my own business after with the spontaneous pace of everyday nothing is really repetitive. It is a work environment I dream of having!
Here is the seminar I attended
