Last week was my first week at
Fuseideas in Somerville. I got to ease into the new position by starting with a
half day Thursday and doing a full day on Friday. Needless to say, doing 9-5 at
a job as a student is a little daunting. For my first couple of days I worked
on small projects: finding and organizing press clips, contacting participants
in a campaign we are wrapping, calling around to find the cheapest place to get
plastic tiaras. You know, the basics.
I ended up being really happy with
the fact that I do a full day on Fridays. It gave me an opportunity to really
get to know the rest of the employees during downtime while also seeing what a
normal day at Fuseideas looks like. Another responsibility given to interns is
to sit at the front desk. This includes answering phones, taking messages, and
greeting guests. This was surprisingly a great way to get myself comfortable with
the position. If I were sitting at my own desk not interacting with anyone I
wouldn’t have become comfortable and confident so quickly. By working at the
front desk, you are constantly interacting with people—whether you like it or
not. Luckily I love interacting with people so it was a perfect job. During my
day on Friday, our team was dealing with a small social media crisis involving
an unhappy customer complaining about our client on the Facebook pages we
manage. Because the team was working with that I didn’t have a lot of tasks
throughout the day so being at the desk kept me somewhat busy.
Overall, I am really happy with my
first week. I love the company and the people I work with. They have already
given me small responsibilities and positive feedback within my first couple of
days so I am confident that this internship will live up to my expectations.
