Week #1

Last week was my first week at my internship at Dig Boston. It was very uncomfortable for the first two days for me because I do not yet have a specialization (an particular area to report about-arts, music, food, etc.). The first day I went in, they were finishing up the upcoming issue and did not have much for me to work on. I wasn't really sure how to fill up my time and spent most of it idly The next day I went in, I was able to witness the some of the planning and organizing of the upcoming issue. I also learned that the website and the printed paper have very different limitations- the website has more flexibility because it is instantaneous and there are not as many requirements as the print version. I worked on uploading some of the print articles to the blog (who knew WordPress could be so confusing?) When I went in yesterday, I was given a few videos to do quick reviews on. I was both excited and nervous about the assignment, because I was not sure how they wanted it to be written.

My biggest concern right now is my lack of confidence. I am still uncertain about the direction I want to go in with this internship. And I still have many questions lingering in my head: what do I want to write about? what style of writing do I do well? how do I approach my supervisor? There was something that my supervisor said in my initial interview that sticks out to me as I go along with this process: "what you put into this is what you're going to get out of it". I am still getting acclimated, but I hope I gain enough confidence in the upcoming weeks to be able to know what I want to write about and to be able to pitch ideas without the fear of being shut down.
