Blog #12 Job Hunting

Ever since my internship ended, I've been spending a great deal of my time self-reflecting on my experiences at CRLS. Even more so, I've been spending the majority of my days online searching for jobs in the business management field. Since my major is so broad, I'm having a challenging time narrowing my choices and trying to figure out which area of business I would like to get into. I've had jobs as well as internships in the past that were in sports/athletic- related. However, I would like to explore other options; perhaps human resources, marketing or some non-profit organization. I've applied to 15- 20 companies so far in the Cambridge/Boston area, requesting various positions ranging from administrative assistant, associate, entry-level sales and marketing positions, and the list goes on. Through all this, I've learned something during the job search process- SCAMS. I have to be very careful about giving out personal information.

That is, my social security number, and information pertaining to references. I was surprised to learn that there are so many online job scams. For example, offers like: $5500/ monthly salary with no experience or college degree required; or “ take advantage of our company package: free health benefits, all dental costs covered, and paid vacation with all expenses covered by us.” Overall, I believe that things will work out well eventually. And in the meantime, I look forward to three things in the weeks ahead: lunch with my former supervisor and the secretary, an appointment that I scheduled with a career advisor to review my resume, and lastly GRADUATION! (25 more days).
