Week 8

I had an interesting week at my internship. Usually I am not given assignments when I first walk in, and last week I was given two right off the bat. The first one was gathering statistic information because one of the pieces we received was not long enough. I scanned through the article and pulled out important numbers. I also did some additional research and went to the organization's page and pulled some statistics. I was not sure how much information my supervisor was looking for, so I tried to provide as much as I could. One of the other supervisors was asking help uploading calendar events to the website from the person sitting next to me. I had some experience doing the uploads, and since I had already finished the other assignment, I asked him if I could help.
It's interesting when things run smoothly in the work place, because I ended up learning more about the uploading process through the questions him and I asked each other. I usually like to work independently, but it is nice to be able to bounce ideas  and suggestions off of coworkers in order to get the work done more efficiently and in a timely manner. Although journalism does involve some collaboration, it is usually a fairly independent field of work. I think I enjoy the collaboration aspect more, because it brings a new dimension to the work place and also your work.
