Last week was pretty stressful; in addition to balancing my school and internship life, I had two second interviews back to back where I had to be on my top game. To make matters worse, they were at the end of the week when most people usually feel tired. For me personally, I had a rough week academically, spending many nights with little sleep because I was awake doing homework.
My first second interview was at a company called Boston Business Concepts (BBC for short, and they don't have anything to do with Britain). This company is located in Woburn, which is really difficult to get to from Cambridge where I live. I had to allow a little more than an hour and a half to be there on time; my interview was scheduled at 10, so I was up by 6am to get ready to catch my bus at State Street at 8:30. It was much easier getting to Woburn this time, and I had about an hour to spare before my interview. This interview was short; I was taken to a diner and talked to one of the assistant managers about the position for about 30 minutes. Then I had to talk to another man for about 15 minutes. After that, I had to wait for a call back. Unfortunately, this never happened but I am not too worried; it is not the kind of job that I am looking for.
The next day, I had an interview for 8 hours straight with one company called NEC. Even though an 8 hour interview is really tiring, I liked them better. It gave them a chance to get to know me over a long period of time, versus 20 minutes like the typical interview. I shadowed an assistant manager for a full day and he gave me an idea about what the job was like. We seemed to get along really well and connected pretty quickly. He also liked how comfortable I seemed around the people we visited throughout the day. I am finding that I really enjoy working with people; I get my energy from others and need this in my work environment. On Monday at some point, I will be hearing from NEC with another opportunity and I would be shocked if I did not get it. The assistant manager said that he would put in a good word for me and I overheard him saying positive things after we got back for the day (which made me really happy, of course).
For now, I am still applying a lot to other places. It is difficult to balance everything out, however. I am trying to finish up strong and have a job by June 1 so my time is very limited. However, I am determined and believe that it will work out in the end.
